1.   DISCOVER …”Where are we NOW?”

Before we consult a map to find out which way we turn at the next road junction, we have to know “Where are we NOW?” in order to know which way to turn. The Discover stage uses a Moment of Truth Activity to identify what our benchmark is before we start to change anything.

Looking at our Department or Organisation –  “Through the Eyes of a Customer” helps us to analyse what we think our Customer would score our service levels on a scale of 1-10 and helps us to answer the “Where are we now?” question.

2.    DREAMING and Visioning what the “Perfect 10” might look like

The second practice is positive framing: focus on what you want, the desired outcome(s) instead of the problem. For example, instead of focusing on fixing low performance, study high performance. What are high- performing teams doing that could be replicated? Instead of fixing turnover issues, have conversations with those who are engaged and committed. What can you learn from them?

DREAM that it is 5 years from now…your Team has just had it’s BEST year EVER… describe what the “10 out of 10 Year” looks like using this inspirational VISIONING STRATEGY.

3.    DESIGN: Working Together to develop what might be

In this activity, team members create a Shared Vision for the “Perfect 10 Dream”  with a Powerful Purpose and a strong “WHY?” The goal isn’t to be modest; it’s to identify the core strengths that the team can rely on. This builds immediate trust and reminds everyone of the collective talent in the room and the individual accountability to the success of the plan as the Dream is turned into SMART Goals.

4.    DELIVER: Turning the dream into a reality

It is at this stage that the Dream becomes reality and the Strategies and Tactics identified in Stage 3 (Design) are deployed applying Creativity and Innovation in order to ensure successful achievement of the “10 out of 10” Dream.
